beet-wix

beet-wix is the solo electronic project of NZ Nintendo-DS-wielding weirdo Lucky Pollock, where they craft noisy-pop ballads on a Nintendo DS originally borrowed from the Ōtepoti art school (where they were not a student).

in 2024 they released their debut self-produced album CRYathlon which explored the joys and difficulties of their life as a neurodiverse person with a sense of humour. they topped the SRN charts with two of their singles from this album, slug level standards and magic romance, and were nominated for best solo act in the 2024 SRN awards.

they are currently sporadically doing gigs in Te Whanganui-a-tara as part of their new label scrap metal cereal records and experimenting with field recordings and using synths made from birdsong alongside the DS. they also have been experimenting with sound design, recently providing the soundtrack for an animated short, away.

outside of beet-wix Lucky occasionally makes music as lucky omen, where they play songs on the piano and improvise, drawing on their experience studying classical piano as a major during their Bachelor of Music at Otago University.

they also compose classical music based on patterns from astrology, their most recent piece was for string orchestra and was played by the NZSO as part of the 2024 CANZ composers’ workshop. an earlier piece they wrote was for horn and harmonium and was played at Pyramid Club as part of the Frogmeet Orchestra.

they are open to commissions for any kind of sound work relating to their interests.
